Question:   I want to participate in formal rush--how?
St. Mary's has a deferred recruitment system, meaning that only students who have completed at least 12 credit hours and achieved a 2.0 for their last semester and cumulative GPA may join a sorority. Thus recruitment is held in the spring. The Office of Greek Life conducts this membership recruitment period, and an application is required. For more information, please visit the

Question:   Where do you hold your chapter meetings?
We hold our meetings in the "Outback" (upperclassman residence hall).
Question:   What Activities does Alpha Phi Do?
As an Alpha Phi, you'll have a busy social life. From mixers, date parties and formals to dinners, crush parties and homecoming with some of St. Mary's most outstanding fraternities--Alpha Phi has it all!
In addition we hold sisterhood events, like retreats and chapter dinners, and plan events for Parent's Weekend. Road trips, Spring Break get-aways, study breaks and basketball games are just some of the many fun activities we have going on all year long. If you want to be a part of some of the best social events on campus, Alpha Phi is for you!
Philanthropy is a big part in Alpha Phi life as well. Each semester, we participate in a wide variety of community service events, such as Habitat for Humanity and Literacy Volunteers of America. In addition, we host a major philanthropical projects: "Teddy A.T.T.A.C.K."
Learn more about our philanthropy events.
Question:   You're the Iota Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi.   Explain that.
Most Greek organizations assign each individual chapter another, unique set of letters. These unique letters identify a specific chapter of the larger organziation. For example, the St. Mary's chapter of Alpha Phi has been designated as the "Iota Beta" chapter. Alpha Phi chapters are assigned chapter names based on the order in which they are chartered.
Question:   What other organizations are your members in?
The St. Mary's Alpha Phis are visible and involved on campus. Members of our chapter can be found in almost every campus group--from intramurals to the Homecoming Court. You'll find us participating in tons of campus activities including, Homecoming, pom squad, student government (we have four Senate Seats on the St. Mary's Student Senate!), the Panhellenic Council, yearbook and newspaper staffs, Order of Omega Greek Honor Society, intramurals, theater arts, athletics, peer tutoring, and drill team. You name it, we're involved!
Question:   Do you have a scrapbook online?
Yes! Click here to see the beautiful ladies of Alpha Phi.
Question:   How much does it cost to join a sorority?
At St. Mary's University, joining a sorority is surprizingly affordable. Since none of the sororities have houses, the cost is significantly less than at other colleges and universities.
For the New Member semster, the average cost is $450. For every semester thereafter, the cost goes down to an average of $276.
During recruitment, you will be told what the financial obligations are--and if you are not told, be sure to ASK!
